Floral design is an art that requires passion, dedication, and creativity. For Paola & Rolando, founders of Carlota Flower Lab (after her grandmother), flowers became more than just a business, they became a calling. Her journey from graphic design to floristry is a testament to perseverance and artistry.

From Graphic Design to Floristry
Paola started in graphic design, but quickly realized office life wasn’t for her. Seeking creative freedom, she turned to flowers, initially self-taught through online tutorials. A failed floral arrangement for her sister was a turning point, she needed proper training. Determined, she commuted eight hours to Mexico City to study floral design, laying the foundation for Carlota Flower Lab.
The Birth of Carlota Flower Lab
Paola and her husband, Rolando, started their business in a small storage space, crafting floral arrangements atop a washing machine. Their unique round flower boxes quickly gained popularity, fueled by social media. With demand growing, Carlota Flower Lab became a renowned floral studio.
Beyond Floristry: Education & Recognition
A pivotal moment came when customers requested workshops. Their first class attracted 25 students, sparking a new direction. Soon, they were teaching across Mexico, the U.S., and Europe, collaborating with institutions like Flower School New York and McQueens Flowers.
One defining milestone was partnering with McQueens Flowers in Mexico, an event that faced pandemic challenges but ultimately succeeded, solidifying Carlota Flower Lab’s global influence

Words of Wisdom
Paola & Rolando’s advice for florists and entrepreneurs:
- Patience, perseverance, and faith drive success.
- Authenticity over imitation—embrace your unique artistic touch.
- Share knowledge, don’t compete—the industry thrives when florists uplift each other.

Looking Ahead
With upcoming workshops worldwide, Carlota Flower Lab continues shaping the floral industry. Paola’s story is a testament to passion and resilience, and at Mystic Flowers, we are honored to collaborate with such a visionary.
One of the most memorable compositions took place during an intimate collaboration between Carlota Flower Lab, Dogwood and Fir®, and Mystic Flowers. Set in the warm, inviting home of Gilberto from Dogwood and Fir®, the design featured an exquisite selection of Mystic’s flowers—most notably the delicate blush rose lilies. These blooms became the focal point of a striking floral chandelier, perfectly blending Carlota’s signature elegance with Gilberto’s creative flair. The quality and presence of the flowers made the process effortless, and the final piece radiated beauty and sophistication. It was a celebration of artistry, friendship, and floral excellence.
